BAY LEXICON

Bay Lexicon

Principal Investigator: Jane Wolff
The Exploratorium
San Francisco, California, 2013(Ongoing)

Bay Lexicon offers information about San Francisco’s shoreline to reveal the implications of sea level rise. The project began as a series of flash cards in the Exploratorium, a museum of science, art, and human perception on the city’s waterfront. The flash card component uses drawings, annotations, maps, and questions to illustrate, investigate, and redefine places and words along an 11-mile walking route. The installation is a foundational part of the museum’s Sea Level Rise Education Plan, developed for and with the Port of San Francisco. Bay Lexicon, a visual dictionary of the shoreline’s history, present condition, and possibilities, expands on these explorations.
